Chesterton Art Center Fall Classes Are Open for Registration!
Chesterton Art Center’s (CAC) fall classes for both youth and adult students are now open for registration. In
addition to our popular standard classes, we are excited to share some news related to our studio art
education programs!
Over the summer, CAC acquired a printmaking press, and with the help of some dedicated volunteers, we
successfully installed the press in our upstairs classroom. The addition of the printmaking press will make it
possible for CAC to build a more robust printmaking program. This fall, students can sign up for “Exploring
Monotype + Relief Printmaking,” August 13–September 3, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, and “Drypoint Intaglio
Printmaking Workshop,” September 17 and 24, from 5:30–7:30 PM. More information about these and all
other adult classes can be found at ChestertonArt.org/adult-classes-and-workshops!
Following a packed Youth + Teen Summer Programming schedule of Youth Art Camps and Teen Studio
Intensives, our normal youth programming schedule resumes in September with After School Art classes and
one-session opportunities, such as workshops and Preschool Pop-Ins. After School Art classes are offered
every month from September–May for ages 5–18. Each four-session class is designed to teach students
valuable artmaking skills, in a safe and supportive environment that emphasizes creative play. Because each
monthly class focuses on a different theme with new projects, families are welcome to register for one or
several classes throughout the programming year! Classes through November are already listed and open for
registration. For more information and to register, visit ChestertonArt.org/youth-and-teen-classes!
Finally, we are thrilled to announce the launch of ArtsConnect, a new series of classes for adults ages 60 and
over. ArtsConnect classes are scheduled during the daytime, are offered at a lower tuition, and include all
supplies. Cara Schmitt, CAC Education Director, identified the need for the class series and developed the
new program because of her experience teaching “Creative Aging: Exploring Drawing and Creative
Expression.” That class was made possible through a Lifelong Arts Indiana Fellowship awarded to Schmitt by
the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC). The first class in the new ArtsConnect series, “ArtsConnect: Watercolor
Fundamentals,” started earlier this month and has been hugely successful. The next class in the series is
“ArtsConnect: Exploring Gouache,” September 8–29, from 2:30 to 4 PM. Each week, instructor Jen Aitchison
will lead students through the basics—how to handle brushes, mix colors, build layers, and add texture.
Lessons are thoughtfully paced to support all experience levels, with plenty of time for individual guidance
and group discussion. If you are interested in registering for “ArtsConnect: Exploring Gouache,” visit
ChestertonArt.org/adult-classes-and-workshops or call (219) 926-4711.
There is so much happening at Chesterton Art Center this fall, and we hope to see you in our classrooms!
