Delve Into the World of Nocturnal Wildlife at Humane Indiana Fundraiser

Cedar Lake, IN – May 7, 2025 – Join Humane Indiana in celebrating the world of nocturnal

creatures at Nocturnal Nature Night! This fundraising event takes place on Saturday, June 21

from 5 – 9pm at the Cedar Lake Friary, located at 12921 Parrish Ave.

A family-friendly event that is open to the public, Nocturnal Nature Night will feature activities

for wildlife lovers of all ages! Meet some of Humane Indiana’s nocturnal ambassador animals,

including skunks, opossums, owls, and more; grab a bite to eat from on-site food trucks and shop

from local vendors; take photos with the popular characters, Bluey and Bingo, who will be on-

site to read a wildlife story; enjoy hands-on activities and take-home crafts. For those event

attendees interested in sticking around until dark, you’ll have the unique opportunity to

participate in a guided night hike on the Friary property to search for bats, owls, and other

nighttime wildlife!

“We’re excited to invite the public to be part of this unique, family-friendly opportunity,” shares

Brian Fitzpatrick, CEO of Humane Indiana. “The Friary serves as a scenic and spacious venue to

experience the nature and animals we’re aiming to bring awareness to; it also allows Humane

Indiana to further expand its reach into Cedar Lake, so we can share our mission with even more

animal lovers across the county.”

Event goers can hopefully expect to catch a glimpse of the bat population that calls the property

home. With features such as a stone grotto, walking trails, and a pond, the property is a fitting

location for this event formerly known as Bat Appreciation Night. “The expansive wooded

property here at the Friary is a perfect release site for rehabilitated animals,” says Nicole

Harmon, Humane Indiana Wildlife Senior Director. “In fact, this past summer, we released a

barred owl here!”

“I’ve had the Friary for about a year, but it’s already been the backdrop for some amazing

moments—like watching owls and other wild animals return to their natural home right here on

the property,” says Scott Filler, Friends of the Friary Founder and Humane Indiana Board of

Directors President. “Hosting Nocturnal Nature Night feels like a natural fit. It’s a chance to

share this special place with the community while raising support for the wildlife team that

makes those animal releases possible.”

Tickets for the event are $10/carload and can be purchased on-site at the gate or in advance on

the event webpage: www.humaneindiana.org/events/nnn25. The webpage also includes

information about how to sign up to become a food or product vendor at the event. All proceeds

benefit Humane Indiana’s Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center.
