Highland, IN – April 25, 2025 – Humane Indiana Wildlife, in collaboration with the Town of

Highland and Dunes Calumet Audubon Society, proudly announced the successful release of a

Bald Eagle back into its natural habitat. The event took place on April 25, 2025, at 2 pm at the

Heron Rookery in Highland, Indiana, marking the eagle's official return to the wild after several

weeks of rehabilitation and care at Humane Indiana’s wildlife center. The eagle was treated after

being covered in a foreign substance and given a chance to re-oil his feathers after being cleaned.

“This release was a testament to the dedicated work of our team and the incredible support of our

community partners,” said Nicole Harmon, Senior Director of Humane Indiana Wildlife

Rehabilitation. “It was an inspiring moment, and we were honored to celebrate the successful

recovery of this magnificent bird and the important role that wildlife rehabilitation plays in

preserving our local ecosystems.”

“We were honored to collaborate with Humane Indiana and the Town of Highland to celebrate

the return of this Bald Eagle to the wild,” said Kim Ehn, President of the Dunes Calumet

Audubon Society. “It was a moment that truly reminded us of the importance of preserving our

local wildlife, and we were grateful to be part of this significant event.”

“This was a wonderful occasion for the community to come together and celebrate the resilience

of this Bald Eagle,” said Brian Fitzpatrick, CEO of Humane Indiana. “We were thrilled to

partner with Dunes Calumet Audubon Society and the Town of Highland to mark the release of

this incredible animal and to raise awareness of the ongoing work needed to protect and care for

wildlife in our region.”
