NEW Disposal of Medical Sharps in Porter County
Valparaiso, IN – The Recycling and Waste Reduction District reminds residents of the vital importance of safely disposing of medical sharps. Proper disposal not only protects sanitation workers and the public from potential harm but also prevents environmental contamination.
Common medical sharps you can find at home are needles used for injections, syringes, lancets, auto-injectors, infusion sets, GLP-1 injectors, etc...
If you have any of these at home, please collect them in an enclosed hard container (old milk jugs or laundry jugs) and bring them to either of the locations listed below.
Residents are encouraged to bring their medical sharps to either:
· Porter County Health Department (Valparaiso), located at 155 Indiana Ave, Suite 104, Valparaiso, IN 46383
· Portage Health Department located at 3590 Willowcreek Road, Suite C, in Portage IN 46368.
BOTH locations are available to accept these items from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM. *The Portage Office is closed for lunch from 12:30PM-1:30PM M-F*
Sharps are also accepted at every Household Hazardous Waste Collection hosted by the Recycling District of Porter County.
Please be advised that police stations in Porter County do NOT accept medical sharps.
