World Civility Day
Gary Chamber of Commerce to Host 10th Annual World Civility Day on April 9
Gary, Ind. — The Gary Chamber of Commerce will host the 10th Annual World Civility Day on Thursday, April 9, 2026, celebrating communities across Northwest Indiana that promote kindness, respect, and civic responsibility.
This milestone event will highlight the importance of civility beginning at home and extending throughout the region. This year’s program will include recognition of several Northwest Indiana communities that have pledged to foster safe, wholesome, and healthy environments for their residents.
World Civility Day will begin with civility-themed workshops at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center starting at 9:00 a.m. Students representing multiple school districts will participate in the day’s educational sessions focused on respect, collaboration, and community engagement.
The celebration will culminate with an evening dinner and recognition program honoring participating cities and towns for their commitment to strengthening civility within their communities. Organizers encourage additional municipalities and governmental entities to join the initiative and help make Northwest Indiana the “Civility Capitol” of Indiana, the nation, and the world.
“Community Civility Counts,” organizers emphasize, underscoring the event’s mission to inspire positive community values across the region.
